Lately, I was thinking about adequate term for better and healthier online/virtual experience and presence/existence.

After, some thought I come to a term "Virtual Hygiene" which is a coin from two other terms.

Virtual - in world of computers is often explained as 'not physically existing as such but made by software to appear to do so'. It is computer-based simulated environment which may be populated by many users who represent them self in a way of a personal avatar.

Hygiene - was the Greek goddess of health, cleanliness and sanitation. In general definition it is a 'practice or activity that you do to keep things healthy and clean.'.

So, in general my suggestion for term 'Virtual Hygiene' definition would be:

Virtual Hygiene - is practice or activity which has a goal to protect our general health and presence in the virtual (computer) generated world.

Analyzing the current worldwide trends in an IT revolution, where the internet access and peoples presence 'online' / 'virtual' is spreading in tremendous speed. We are becoming increasingly aware of the virtual existence and about its consequences.

For us now. Or for the future generations its is very important to take care about our 'Virtual presence'. For a long time nobody was so worried about their 'Virtual presence' in a way that it will be something that will last forever. As, in a real life we all have something that we don't like to be reminded on. In 'Virtual' world the things we wouldn't like to be reminded on will still be there. By the current regulations and trends we can't do too much to prevent that. 'Virtual Hygiene' becoming crucial for our presence in a Virtual/Online world. We all should make efforts to think about actions and activities in a way before we do something that will be there forever either we like that or no.

The activities we are doing every day in our real 'Physical' life like washing our hands, watch our bad talk/language, store our garbage, clean our house. Should also take a place in a 'Virtual' world. All these activities are contributing to our personal and global health and create better assumptions for those who came next. It's our duty to leave the 'real' and 'virtual' worlds in better shape.

So, for the good 'Virtual Hygiene' it would be important to us to think about our activities online, our presence. Let's try not make thing worst for the others. Be more polite in every day communication. Let's not pollute the world with bad thoughts by deeds and a bad atmosphere in general.

NOTE: This is a just preview and my thoughts about the term and definition.

My humble opinion is YES!

As, a software developer I started my path exactly before 12 years. At the end of month August 2006 I got the first job to work for an Austrian company as Junior C# developer. Until today, I worked mainly as .net, asp.net, ruby on rails developer.

In this period I worked in office for 7 years. Last 5 years I am working from home, remotely for different clients from EU/USA.

So, in general I entered in IT as a software developer as my hobby profession. Before IT I finished the Political Science University and worked with in my diploma profession for about two months and 24 days. The job wasn't so bad for any other person from my country at that time, but for me it wasn't so good. Working with many people on daily basis was so exhausting. I couldn't see myself working this job for a next 40 years.

So, I left that job and spend two years in thinking about my future and what would be interesting profession where I can best express myself. And which will be enough interesting to me and which can hold my attention for a while.

After, lot of investigating I started with experimenting with programming. Downloading programming tools with my dial-up connection and writing 'Hello, World!' in more than 30 languages, just to see is there a programming language which will best suit to me.

In period of investigation I started to write some games with GameMaker later also with Liberty Basic and after 2 years I got my first job to work as c# developer.

Long story short or long? hah.

So, that's me and my entry into programming profession.

Today, 12 years later I am working as Remote Freelance Ruby On Rails Contractor and it's okay. Last year I really had so much free time for myself, for traveling for enjoying in life. Probably the best time of my life for now.

As I mentioned above last five years I am working from home and I know that working remotely is not for every person. If you really want good paid job or contract you will need to be a senior, or let say very experienced software developer, because when you get the task you are alone, you and your stackoverflow!

In the period of last 5 years I had very often many job offers from many companies mostly by the linkedin message contact.

And as I am Contractor I tried to get the best Contract I can get. So I had so many interviews, testing, waiting, many offers and rejections.

Almost all the interviews consisted of informal talk and the code testing. Mostly they give you some task on HackerRank or any similar testing site online.

Few times they also asked me to write some algorithm in my Notepad by sharing a screen and so. I tried, to do my best many times. But unfortunately, very often I didn't finish the test or I spend too much time and left it.

To be honest in most of the cases I didn't leave testing because I am ignorant or because I don't have a knowledge to finish it, no! I left it because I really don't see correct purposes of writing code test live or on some testing site in some requested time period. Spending my time by solving some testing problems chosen from recruiters or one of company seniors, where they try to be smart and choose a test that's really, in most of the case I never had to do in a real situation in my earlier career, wasn't very motivated for me.

Recruitment process is designed to take part of the cake from IT industries, and they do so many mistakes only to prove their expensive engagement in process of hiring.

Maybe I am wrong, but that's me. Why? Hmm.

From past experiences I learned that it is very important to make a clear note to recruiter or person who makes first contact by offering a job position to me is that I need to tell them about my experience by sending an updated CV and insists that they read my CV and check the links of my earlier work and GitHub or bitbucket code.

In that case if they really thinks that I am good choice for position they can save us precious time by reading completely my CV and checking all other info about me my experience and my code.

If my previous projects are not good enough? If my code is not written good enough? We can talk. I can explain why I wrote that in that way or what would be a better solution and that is okay for me.

But preparing myself for some coding interview from some unknown person/recruiter and trying to make my best on test which they choose, and they think it is important for me to know and it's important to their business and on other side I never needed in my decade of working its very debatable. I am too old for that.

So, if you don't have anything to show yet. You are a beginner, or you worked on some internal project and you wrote only small part of codes and you can't show that publicly, in that case I think it's a good thing to do something besides your work. Spend some of your free time in learning and making some interesting stuff. Or write a blog, explain problems and solutions you got on your work, in that way we all can see who you are and how do you use your brain and logic.

In other case if you are in The Game for a years and you worked and working for few companies and you build stuff in your free time. You work is accessible online. Your code is visible online. Then writing interview testing code is really obsolete!

Yes, it's okay to talk in general about the work, requirements, experiences. It's okay to show code, to talk about code, to discus, acknowledge mistakes, offer better solutions, but if its is not enough for them all of this and solving tasks on HckerRank is more important than this company is not for me.
It Is Possible! Ruby On Rails on Windows 10 Bash on Ubuntu on Windows Yes! It Is Possible!

I was wondering " Is it possible to install and run Ruby, Ruby On Rails on Windows 10 (Linux subsystem) Ubuntu Bash " and a short answer is YES!

I even managed to install Ubuntu Desktop apps on it.

So, basically, you run Bash on Ubuntu on Windows as root and do regular installation steps for installing Rbenv, Ruby, Ruby On Rails.

1 - Step Install Rbenv and Ruby and Ruby On Rails
I used this steps: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-ruby-on-rails-with-rbenv-on-ubuntu-14-04

2 -After, that you need to install "Install an X Server ". In my case, I installed <a href="https://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/" style="background-color: white; color: #114491; font-family: -apple-system, ".SFNSDisplay-Regular", "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14.82px;">Xming with default options.

3 - And the last step was to download and install the desktop version of RubyMine IDE:
I download the Linux version from RubyMine site and place on my D: drive after that I access to D: drive trough Bash " cd mnt/d " and continue to use these steps: https://makandracards.com/makandra/879-install-rubymine-under-ubuntu

Note: Before successfully installing RubyMine I had an error " java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class java.awt.Component " which I managed to fix with "<span class="pln" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">apt<span class="pun" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">-<span class="kwd" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #101094; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">get<span class="pln" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;"> install <span class="kwd" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #101094; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">default<span class="pun" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">-<span class="pln" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">jre" command.

After reinstalling my Windows 10 OS to latest version (Anniversary update 1607). I had to install ImageMagick again.

In one of my latest websites I use paperclip gem and after OS reinstallation I started to getting an error when trying to create a new article with adding an image on.

<span style="background-color: #f2dede; color: #a94442; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">- Avatar Paperclip::Errors::NotIdentifiedByImageMagickError

So, I googled and find many of solutions and neither one worked in my case.

First, there are some solutions to add ImageMagick path "<span class="typ" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #2b91af; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">Paperclip<span class="pun" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">.<span class="pln" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">options<span class="pun" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">[:<span class="pln" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">command_path<span class="pun" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">]<span class="pln" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;"> <span class="pun" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">=<span class="pln" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #303336; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;"> <span class="str" style="background-color: #eff0f1; border: 0px; color: #7d2727; font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; white-space: inherit;">'C:/Program Files/ImageMagick-7.0.2-7-Q16'" to Initializer/paperclip.rb.
Another solution is to add this path into environment/development.rb.
Third, solution was to add into model.rb before before_action line.

Tried all that and did not succeed.

I need to inform you that first I installed "ImageMagick-7.0.2-7-Q16-x64-dll" version.

And the last thing I did was uninstall this version and install x86 version "ImageMagick-7.0.2-7-Q16-x86-dll" and started again rails server and everything works great!

So, the fix is in selecting correct version of "ImageMagick-7.0.2-7-Q16-x86-dll" in my case that was an x86 version!nezirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15982207600896295699noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-844742586533633298.post-14002858534693345232016-05-12T08:48:00.000-07:002016-05-12T08:48:51.004-07:00Basic AJAX in Ruby on Rails - Problem not closing modal SOLVED!Hi,

I checked this little ruby on rails and ajax tutorial on "Basic AJAX in Ruby on Rails" and at the end I had a problem with 'Not closing a modal window after an update or delete product'.

As I checked comments below tutorial I find that many people had the same problem, so I decide to write about a solution in my case.

As I try to write as many I can, codes from tutorials by myself and not do regular copy & paste, I made a mistake!

My mistake was in file _save.js.erb at line:

$(".product-index").htme("<%= escape_javascript(render 'index') %>")

I think you can see what is problem in my case "htme" but it should be "html"

SOLVED!When creating a Meteor JS package on windows os cmd there is a step where you need to create a directory for your package and on Unix os (linux) it is okay to use : (colon in a name) creatorname:packagename , but in windows that is not acceptable.

So, to resolve this problem you don't need to create your package with a colon. You can do just packagename "mkdir spackagename" and then in your package.js in part Package.describe you can give full name with a colon.

Package.describe({
// Short two-sentence summary.
summary: "The package is created for testing purposes only",

// Version number major-version:minor-version:patch-version
version: "1.0.1",

// Optional. Default is package directory name.
name: "creatorname:packagename",

// Optional github URL to your source repository.
//git: "",
});
So upgrade finished but then I had problem with WiFi. It was disabled after upgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.

Tried some tricks with deleting some keys from console, but I didn't had that key in my regedit.

So, I tried to find network card drivers for my toshiba, but neither one is for Windows 10.

After some times, I decide to downgrade Win 10 to Win 8.1 but then I need DVD installation and start again the all process.

I was tired with all these problems. Then decide to search for solution one more time and I find that I need in Control Panel Device Manager find Network Adapter and uninstall "Intel (R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200" and again install it and problem was solved!

After this step my WiFi was fixed and able to show connections.

Thanks to this comment I did uninstall and install of Network Adapter.

Windows 10 looks good, but I really spent to much time to make everything works well.

It is really annoying when you need every time to right click on VS2012 icon for running VS as Administrator. Here are steps to set this once for all.

Follow these simple steps:

Right Click on "devenv.exe"

Click "Troubleshoot compatibility"

Click "Troubleshoot program"

Check "The program requires additional permissions"

Click "Next"

Click "Test the program...". It should launch Visual Studio as Administrator

Click "Next"

Click "Yes, save these settings for this program"

Click "Close the troubleshooter"

Now the Visual Studio will always run as Administrator.

My beloved Visual Studio 2012 starts to behave weird. I did some update like Microsoft Azure Tools for Visual Studio 2013, Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools 2013 and Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2013 - November 2014 Update. Yes, those updates are for my second install Visual Studio 2013 4 Update and as I can note for now VS2013 works well. But suddenly my version of Visual Studio 2012 becomes unresponsive when I run it. As I am connected to online TFS I only get windows like with "Working...." line of text in my TFS Explorer window.All other menu Items are frozen. I could only close started instance of VS2012.

After that I tried to repair installation, but in my Control Panel / Programs and Features there is no option when select Visual Studio installation to Repair. I just have 'Change' but even that I could not start (I tried several times on click nothing happens). So, the next step is to find solution on the internet, but there is no any simple solution. I tried a few but unsuccessfully. The last thing I choose to do Is to try to uninstall my VS2012 with CCleaner and when I choose 'Tools' - 'Uninstall' After selecting my version of VS2012, uninstalling started and there I got 'Repair' option besides 'Uninstall'. So I choose Repair and it's obviously working.

In these days I had request to make a new MVC web project which need to have localization on two different languages.

After spending some time by goggling on this topic and after trying few solution I found what I am looking for (Thanks to Alex Adamyan). Fast & Clean & Easy solution for localizing ASP MVC project.

1. I create basic Asp Mvc project (Visual Studio 2013 4 CTP, MVC 5.2)
2. Added "res" folder to project.
3. Added 2 Resource files in "res" folder Resource.resx & Resource.ba.resx
4. Added two strings (Title & Text) into both resources files one for default english and one for bosnian language.
5.Important thing is that you need to set Access modifier on these two Resources files to "Public"
6.Also in properties of both files Custom Tool property add "PublicResXFileCodeGenerator" value, which is required for compiling.
7. You can set any name in Custom Tool Namespace property I set "ViewRes"
8. In my Index.cshtml page I place my res variables:

@ViewRes.Resource.Title

@ViewRes.Resource.Text

9. Inside _Layout.cshtml I add two menu Item:

@Html.ActionLink("English", "ChangeCulture", "Home", new { lang = "en", returnUrl = this.Request.RawUrl }, null)

@Html.ActionLink("Bosanski", "ChangeCulture", "Home", new { lang = "ba", returnUrl = this.Request.RawUrl }, null)

10. Inside HomeController add new ActionResult:

public ActionResult ChangeCulture(string lang, string returnUrl)
{
Session["Culture"] = new CultureInfo(lang);
return Redirect(returnUrl);
}

11. In Global.asax added:

protected void Application_AcquireRequestState(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//It's important to check whether session object is ready
if (HttpContext.Current.Session != null)
{
CultureInfo ci = (CultureInfo)this.Session["Culture"];
//Checking first if there is no value in session
//and set default language
//this can happen for first user's request
if (ci == null)
{
//Sets default culture to english invariant
string langName = "en";

//Try to get values from Accept lang HTTP header
if (HttpContext.Current.Request.UserLanguages != null && HttpContext.Current.Request.UserLanguages.Length != 0)
{
//Gets accepted list
langName = HttpContext.Current.Request.UserLanguages[0].Substring(0, 2);
}
ci = new CultureInfo(langName);
this.Session["Culture"] = ci;
}
//Finally setting culture for each request
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = ci;
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture(ci.Name);
}
}

Visual Studio!!!

I had one simple web app, created with the MVC5 C# template, which worked all okay until few days. Suddenly, when try to start up I got a message "Cannot start the website because administrative privileges are required to bind to the host name or port"

I tried everything I know, also tried some some fixing solution from stack overflow..But unsuccessfully.. The project was created with Visual Studio 2013 before last update version 3. also I try tried to start project in Visual Studio 2012 and that was also unsuccessful.

After few days I found solution with help of gizmoblogr.com thanks man!

SOLUTION:

- Find CSPROJ file of project you had issue with.
- Search for these two lines and DELETE them:

<DevelopmentServerPort>0</DevelopmentServerPort>

<IISUrl>http://localhost:57680/</IISUrl>

- Save CSPROJ file and start solution again !

DIFFERENCE

While C is the foundation language, C++ is its upgraded version and C# is its modern version. Here's an elaboration:-

C is the older programming language, which is best described as the Hands-on language. Being a C programmer, you have to tell the program to do everything. The strength is that the language lets you do almost anything. Although the language does not support object oriented code, hence there are no classes.

C++ is the extention language of C where '++' refers to the increment. The language allows highly controlled object oriented code. This is once again a very hands on language which goes in further details.

C# is the modern format of C which supports full object oriented code resembling the style of C/C++ code. The language is much close to JAVA. This latest version of C is good for developing web applications.
